The bamboo Saxophone or Shawm is a single reeded instrument with a single octave diatonic scale with an extra note that lends itself to playing a "blues" style sound. This has a very middle eastern sound almost Klezme- like and is wonderful for playing middle eastern, "belly dance", type music. The alto and soprano Shawms are loud while the lower, tenor and bass, are quieter. All Shawms use a tenor saxophone reed. This reed can be found at any music shop that feature reed type instruments. They come in the keys of High D, C, Alto Bb, A, G and F, Tenor E, Eb and low D, and Bass comes in low C, Bb and A (if you have really large hands with long fingers).
