John Wydysh began Spirit Song Flutes in 1992 after a three month apprenticeship with Michael Morning Sun of Morning Sun Fluteworks who is an active member of Eugene Saturday Market. During John's stay in Eugene he made the acquaintance of Richard Waldberg, a former flutes maker. It was Richard who sold John many of the jigs that he uses in tuning the bamboo flutes.

Laksar Geer, a flute maker of thirty-five years shared his knowledge and friendship with John further enriching John’s broad and expanding scope on the craft of flute making. In recent years John has in turn come to teach young men and women the fine art of flute making, sharing the knowledge and skills that he has acquired through his fifteen years as a flute maker.
