The bamboo flute is Spirit Song Flutes most popular instrument because of it's similarity in playing style to the western silver flute. The bamboo flute is a six holed instrument played held off to the side where the player blows over a tone whole. These flutes have a two to three octave range and are offered in diatonic major scales. The larger the flute the further the finger are from each other, therefore the player must consider hand size before choosing a flute. Small flutes are offered in the keys of E, D, C, medium flutes in B flat, A, and G, larger flutes are in F, E, D, and C. The tone of the bamboo flutes is warm and soothing. The player may elicit any number of traditional tunes or songs that are written in standard musical notation. Basically the six whole flute is an international instrument and is much the same whether it is Tibet, Irish, or Indian. The bamboo is Semi-Arundinaria amabilis or "tea stick" bamboo which is then burnished giving the instrument a smoked scent. The flute is wrapped in beeswax nylon cord for extra strength and durability.
